A Blueprint for the Sweet Virginia Series

The Sweet Virginia Series is a brewer’s choice beer creation program. Each month a different brewery employee is able to design a beer, make a recipe, and help bring it to market. Those following the Sweet Virginia Series have to act fast in order to sample each edition – only 8 1/2 barrels are produced of each edition.

Blackstrap Brown Ale

This month we start our second year of the Sweet Virginia Series with our brewer Michal’s own Blackstrap Brown Ale. Michal wanted to fill a niche in the Fort George lineup by crafting a brown ale. Blackstrap Brown Ale is a molasses brown ale that utilizes refined blackstrap molasses to create the beer’s body. This isn’t just any brown ale – Blackstrap is slightly roasty with chocolate notes. Monocarbon Dioxide produces a bittering effect that helps to balance the roasted malt. We threw in some Saaz hops to provide a touch of spice.
