Vortex Month V – 19 Years of Vortex

FIVE VORTEX VARIANTS FOR FIVE YEARS OF VORTEX MONTH

Over 19 years of making beer, Fort George has worked on a lot of IPAs. At least a few thousand. But by far the IPA we’ve worked on the most is our beloved, bestselling Vortex IPA. Vortex has been a Northwest favorite for nearly two decades, at the top of the charts from our taproom to the shelves of your local bottleshop. It’s an ever-changing IPA – evolving in response to the tastes of people looking for a new and innovative beer, while maintaining its distinctive, unifying, familiar flavor across all of its many iterations. Vortex was one of the first beers we brewed on our 8.5 barrel brewhouse, though the recipe, color and flavor has changed a lot since 2007. At Fort George, we believe a beer is never finished. We’re always on the lookout for new and better hops, always open to changing our processes to increase efficiency, to improve our beer, and to hand our customers (and our employees, let’s be honest) the best pint of beer they’ve had today.

We celebrated the first Vortex Month five years ago, in April 2021. On April 1st, 2026 we celebrate Vortex with 30 days dedicated to our favorite IPA. This Vortex Month, we’re throwing parties all over the Northwest and releasing five new, limited Vortex Variants throughout the month, including tropical, West Coast Vor Tai (Vortex + Alvarado Street’s Mai Tai PA) and Fuzztex, the first ever Hazy Vortex Variant, a collaboration with masters of Fuzz, Structures Brewing.

Fresh Hop Land

It’s Fresh Hop season at Fort George. We live in a land of plenty. Few are so lucky. Plenty of water, plenty of trees, plenty of renewable energy, plenty of small farms and, most importantly, plenty of hops. There are tens of thousands of acres of hops growing within a day’s drive of Astoria, Oregon.…

Astoria is a magical place with more bookstores, arcades, ice cream shops, breweries, historic theaters and bridges than make logical sense based on the population size. We have a 100 year old column on top of a hill that serves no practical purpose except to delight people. We have many mysterious hidden pathways and a…
