Year in Beer Report 2018

Fort George is more than a brewery. It’s also a Public House. And from the very beginning, we have strived to be a place where people can come together and share a table with good food, good pints, and good company. We’ve also made it a goal to give back to that community that has done so much for us.

Benefit Night helps raise funds for local nonprofits focusing on health & human services, the environment, and education. Each nonprofit runs a silent auction or raffle at their event, while all pizzeria profits for the night go to the cause. In 2018, Benefit Night raised $29,696 at these monthly fundraisers. Another $92,972 were added at the yearly Magnanimous Mug Awards. This friendly competition had a dozen individuals raising money for a dozen local nonprofits, with the top three receiving additional cash donations from Fort George. All told, Benefit Night & Magnanimous Mug Awards helped these valuable local organizations raise a total of $122,668 in cash donations. Benefit Night is held on the last Tuesday of every month in the upstairs pizzeria.

In addition to cash fundraising, Fort George also donates a variety of merchandise, gift cards, services, and, of course, cold beer. In 2018, $23,539 worth of gift cards, merchandise, and beer were dispersed to nonprofits throughout the Pacific Northwest. These donations can then be auctioned, sold, or poured at fundraisers to generate much more for these nonprofits.

Fort George also opens up the Lovell Showroom to the community for an educational lecture series throughout the fall, winter, and spring. Every Thursday features a new presentation from organizations like Clatsop Community College, Clatsop Historical Society, Lewis & Clark National Park, Philosofarian, and the North Coast Watershed Alliance. We also donate the use of that space to several nonprofits throughout the year, where they hold fundraisers and other informational presentations.

Topaz Farm and Fort George come together for the second year to improve our communities and our beer.
