What do injured seabirds and orphaned otters have in common? They all receive care at the Wildlife Center of the North Coast! Rehab staff Ginger and Stefanie will pull back the curtain to discuss the day-to-day operations of WCNC’s wildlife rehabilitation hospital, and describe what changes were needed to accommodate two river otter pups admitted to WCNC this summer.
Ginger Nealon is originally from Virginia. After relocating to the Oregon Coast, they found their passion for wildlife rehab through volunteering with WCNC, and were hired to work in the clinic as a Wildlife Rehabilitator in early 2020. In September of 2021, they accepted the position as Rehabilitation Coordinator overseeing hospital operations and patient care for WCNC.
Stefanie Collar is a seabird biologist, with a special interest in alcids and terns. She has worked on seabird colonies on both coasts of North America and China. She has served as WCNC’s Senior Wildlife Rehabilitator since 2023 and resides in Svensen with 2 cats, 1 dog, 5 ducks and a fish.
All OCTOBER Thursday Talks will be held in the Lovell Taproom. Doors open at 6pm with food and beverages available via the Taproom, talk starts at 7pm. All ages welcome and never a cover.
