Beda, author of the 2022 Philip Taft Labor History Book Prize winner, Strong Winds and Widow Makers: Workers, Nature, and Environmental Conflict in Pacific Northwest Timber Country, will discuss the complicated relationship between Pacific Northwest timber workers and the forests where they work, and how the workers’ deep connection to the woods sometimes clashed with the views of environmentalists and the lumber industry.
