Sunday Night Music: Verboten and Westmoreland

Verboten is the musical project of Powell, with bandmates and frequent collaborators Amy Anders (bass) and Daniel O’Connor (drums). The three-piece band formed in Vermont and has toured extensively throughout the Northeast USA.

Westmoreland is the project of Seattle-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Zach Alva. Their debut LP, Latino Ballroom, deals with the passing of his father and examines his feelings surrounding grief, family, and love. The record’s sound is steeped in a wide range of cultural influences, including folk-rock, jazz, and country, with the title referencing his experience as an Indigenous and Latino artist creating in what are predominantly white music spaces. With Latino Ballroom, Westmoreland firmly establishes himself as a songwriter with a rare eye for detail and someone who understands their craft— one who we will undoubtedly talk about for years to come.
