Wit & Wisdom: Is “Objectivity” Important?

Join Philosofarian in the Lovell Showroom on Thursday, October 12th for “Wit & Wisdom: Is “Objectivity” Important?” presented by Seth Tichenor.

On the one hand, “ being objective” is something that we strive for in most of our perspectives, our analyses, and our judgments.  We depend upon objectivity in science, in law, and even in our personal assessments of others in order to trust them as fair or true. At the same time, complete “objectivity” seems to be something that is utterly impossible for the human mind to reach. And, what’s more, without a perfect perspective, we have no way of knowing whether we could ever even come close to it. So what exactly is “objectivity” anyway, and what’s its connection to truth? How did objectivity come to be so important in our dealings with knowledge, truth, and fairness? Is it important for us to strive for it even if we have no hope of reaching it?

Doors to the Lovell Showroom open at 6 pm with food and beverages available via the Taproom window, talk starts at 7pm. All ages welcome and never a cover.
