Festival of Dark Arts 2026

In 2026, Fort George’s Festival of Dark Arts featured a world-class line-up of stouts from 71 breweries. Dark Beer flowed from 91 taps at 9 pouring locations around the festival grounds in Downtown Astoria. Imagined, planned, set up, and executed by over 350 volunteers, employees, artists, musicians, performers, and friends, Festival of Dark Arts 2026 was the biggest, best, darkest beer festival ever held in Astoria… maybe in the world. Next year it will be even bigger, better and darker.

The first Festival of Dark Arts was held in Astoria in February 2002. Jack Harris, Fort George Co-Founder, celebrated the first Stout Month in 1992 while working at the McMenamin’s Cornelius Pass Roadhouse. Everywhere he moved and everywhere he brewed, he took Stout Month with him. You can read more about the history of Stout Month here.

The first Festival of Dark Arts in Astoria was a collaboration with Astoria Visual Arts and featured 10-12 stouts on tap, a gallery of dark art and fire dancers in the street.

In 2026, over 3,000 attendees sampled stouts from all over the country, enjoying 28 performances on 4 stages, live tattooing, tarot readings, magic, ice sculptors, dancers, arcade games, beer painters, dark crafts and a myriad of food offerings perfectly suited to stout from battered shrimp to Jackalope Tacos.

Over 3,000 attendees sample stouts and take part in the celebration of dark beer and dark art.
Fire dancing by Flambouyant Productions. Fire Dancers perform in the street outside the Lovell Building.

The Sword closes out the night on stage at The Ruins.

Plenty of water, plenty of trees, plenty of renewable energy, plenty of small farms and, most importantly, plenty of hops. There are tens of thousands of acres of hops growing within a day’s drive of Astoria, Oregon.…

Astoria is a magical place with more bookstores, arcades, ice cream shops, breweries, historic theaters and bridges than make logical sense based on the population size. We have a 100 year old column on top of a hill that serves no practical purpose except to delight people. We have many mysterious hidden pathways and a…

Employees of the Fort are well-known for their extra-curricular activities. Bartenders, brewers, accountants, managers, and drivers are also artists, woodworkers, designers, writers and farmers. When we’re not creating useful things for Fort George and for ourselves, we’re sometimes doing useful things around Astoria and the North Coast. Fort employees regularly volunteer for local nonprofits and they…
