Fort George operates two breweries on the block. “Sweet Virginia” is the original brewery, still located in the back of the downstairs pub. In 2006, Jack and Chris flew to Virginia Beach, VA to salvage this 8.5 barrel Saaz system and drove it across the country to its new home in Astoria. While traveling with the equipment strapped to a flatbed, they met up with a tornado that nearly spread the brewery across a Nebraska cornfield. This became the inspiration behind the name Vortex IPA.
Purchased from Saint Arnold Brewing Company in Houston, TX, “Little Miss Texas” was moved to the North Coast and installed inside the Lovell Building in late 2010, followed by the Cask canning line. This 30 barrel brewhouse focuses on the regular line-up of Fort George canned and kegged beers, while Sweet Virginia offers the brewers the option to make small batch, one-off, and R&D beers.
