Thursday Lecture Series: Ales & Ideas

Doe, a deer, a female deer.  Ray, a drop of golden sun. Many of us grew up with Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do, but few understand the mathematics behind the diatonic scale made famous in The Sound of Music. This month’s Ales & Ideas presentation explores the connections between two of our greatest expressions: math & music. Rich Beveridge, amateur guitarist and professional mathematician, will explain the math behind music and how it has shaped the history of musical composition and instrument design. Come experience the marriage of music and mathematics—see the beauty in mathematics and hear the patterns and formulas within the music.

Ales & Ideas is brought to you each month by Clatsop Community College. Doors to the Lovell Showroom open at 6pm for the Thursday lecture series. All ages are welcome, with food and beverages available through the Lovell Taproom. Never a cover.
