Thursday Lecture Series: Nature Matters

What Juvenile Fish Teach Us About Ocean Protection

Oregon’s ocean is a place of incredible productivity and amazing biodiversity. The State is taking steps to protect its ocean treasures through a new system of marine reserves. At the next Nature Matters, Dr. Kirsten Grorud-Colvert will take us underwater to show how this unique ecosystem supports the incredible journey of fish traveling from open ocean, to nearshore waters, to the deep offshore. She will explain how we can learn from fish that settle in protected habitats by tracking when and where they end up, and how this knowledge can help inform successful protection of Oregon’s ocean ecosystems and the benefits they provide.

Nature Matters is brought to you each month by the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park in partnership with North Coast Watershed Association. Doors to the Lovell Showroom open at 6pm for the Thursday lecture series. All ages are welcome, with food and beverages available through the Lovell Taproom. Never a cover.
